Herman Gail Hunt was born on April 9th, 1931 in Camargo, OK to Herman E. Hunt and Mildred A. Blair. He passed from this life on Sunday, June 28th at the age of 84.

He resided in Camargo his entire childhood and attended school as a Camargo Blackhawk until his graduation in 1949. After graduation he was drafted into the army where he served on active duty for over a year and was honorably discharged in June of 1961. During his time in the Army he earned rank of Corporal and he received the Army of Occupation Medal in Germany, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

In January of 1956, he was united in marriage to Cladene Webster in Clovis, New Mexico. Together they had four children, James, Frank, JoElla, and Janet. They started their lives together in Vici, OK where Gail worked for the county until he began college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University on the GI Bill. He graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science Education. After graduation, they moved to Elk City and he taught a short time in Elk City Public Schools.

In May of 1960, the family moved to Shattuck, OK where Gail began his teaching career at Shattuck Public Schools teaching math until 1973. He took a break from teaching and ran a small feedlot and bought and sold cattle at the family’s residence east of Shattuck. In 1983 he began teaching again at Shattuck for 6 more years until his Oklahoma retirement in 1989. He taught an additional 2 years in Darrouzett, Texas and officially retired in May of 1991.

Throughout the course of his life Gail enjoyed quail hunting, training bird dogs for 2 Dogs Kennel, raising and racing horses, raising and selling cattle, roping, reading the newspaper, going to the coffee shop, and playing Ol Saul.

Gail and Cladene built their family home East of Shattuck where they have resided for 55 years. They have been married for 59 years. Their pride and joy was their family. They loved their grandkids and great-grandkids, and after retirement had the privilege of keeping several of them during the day.

Gail was a Brother of the Masonic Joppa Lodge No. 262 and was a dedicated volunteer to the local Meals on Wheels program.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Mildred Hunt, brother Marvin Hunt, sister Geraldine Williamson, sister Mary Ann Berry, brother-in-law Lynn Williamson, sister-in-law Lee Hunt, daughter-in-law Barbara Hunt, and granddaughter Mandy Harrington.

He is survived by his wife Cladene Hunt of the home. Sons, James Hunt of Garden Plain, KS; Frank Hunt and wife Sherry of Shattuck, OK; daughters JoElla Lennington and husband Jim of Fargo, OK; and Janet Albright of Shattuck, OK. Grandchildren Gina Huenergardt and husband Greg of Shattuck, OK; Clay Albright and wife Megan of Oklahoma City, OK; Kelsey Longhofer and husband Brenten of Shattuck, OK; Wes Molnar of Shattuck, OK; Jerrod Hunt of Delia, KS; John Hunt and wife Hope of Shawnee, KS; Lacey Laverty of Fargo, OK; and Christi Vaughan of Fargo, OK. Brothers, Bill Hunt and wife Janice of Cache, OK; Jimmy Hunt and wife Gayla of Woodward, OK; Jerry Hunt and wife Joni of Edmond, OK. Sisters, Margie McDonald and husband Lyman of Laramie, WY; Kay and Emery Miskel of Oklahoma City, OK; and Madeline Ethridge of Edmond, OK. Great-grandchildren Derek Harrington, McKayla Charmasson, Teagan Charmasson, Tate Charmasson, McKinlee Huenergardt, Milah Longhofer, Chandler Lennington, Reese Laverty, Hunter Vaughan, Kyrah Vaughan, Thad Molnar, Brittney Molnar, and Faith Hunt. And numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends.

Services will be held Wednesday July 1, 2015 at 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church, Shattuck, Oklahoma with burial following in Shattuck Memorial Cemetery, Shattuck, Oklahoma.
