The family, consisting of the father Bernhardt, mother Anna, and a son listed as Johan Nicolas, born in Hundsbach Rheinland Prussia (modern-day Germany) on 12 July 1735 and was christened 17 July 1735 in Desloch, immigrated from home there to the Pennsylvania Colony arriving in Philadelphia on 9 Sept 1738 aboard the ship "Glasgow". John N. Rauch received a Pennsylvania land Warrant on November 20, 1767, for 146 acres and, eventually had two hundred, seventy-three acres in West Hanover township in the County of Dauphin.

The two-story limestone house John Nicholas Rauch built in 1770 is on the corner of N Fairville Avenue and Jonestown Road in West Hanover Township, Pennsylvania has been updated and well preserved since it was home to the Revolutionary War Patriot. It is recorded that John Nicholas Rauch paid the supply tax during the war, signed the Oath of Allegiance on August 20, 1777, and it was on his land that it is said General George Washington and the Continental Army camped.

John N. Rauch married Susannah Mueller, daughter of Lenhardt Mueller, in about 1752. She was born about 1735 and died before 11 June 1821 in West Hanover, Dauphin County, Pa.

Orphan's Court Docket "B" page 289, Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, July 20, 1803: Estate settlement for John Rauch names his wife Susannah and his children: William (eldest son), Henry (second son), Jacob (third son), John (fourth son), Peter, Bernhard, Molly (Mary Magdalena) intermarried with Frederick Garst, Anna Maria intermarried with Christian Zehring, Catherine intermarried with Joseph Forney.

According to Virginia records, on September 10, 1803, Frederick and, his wife, Mary Magdalena Rauch Garst traveled back to Dauphin County, Pa. to claim his wife's portion of her father's estate found in Deed Book "N," Vol. 1, page 175, County of Dauphin, State of Pennsylvania.
