PLATTSBURGH - Mrs. Frances Clay Agnew, 83, formerly of 86 Broad St., died Monday at the Sacred Heart Nursing Home, Plattsburgh after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Plattsburgh on March 21, 1892, the daughter of John Wesley and Adra (Valleau) Clay.
She was a graduate of Platsburgh High School and the former Plattsburgh Normal School.
Married Feb. 20, 1918 to John Comstock Agnew, president of the former A.H. Marshall Hardware Co. Inc., who died on Sept. 15, 1953.
She was a lifelong resident of Plattsburgh and had lived at 86 Broad St. for more than 60 years.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church. For many years she was a Regent of the Nathan Beaman Chapter, Children of the American Revolution and an officer of its State organization.
She was also a member of the Saranac Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include two sons, the Rev. John Clay Agnew, religion editor of the Worcester, Mass. Evening Gazette, Wrcester, Mass., and Dr. Paul Comstock Agnew of Plattsburgh; two brothers, Dr. Paul Valleau Clay of Debary, Fla. and Dr. Edwin Pierce Clay of Minoa, N.Y.; one grandson, four granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Burial will be in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that friends make contributions to the benevolence of their choice.
