Donald R. Alexander, 73, of Grand Island, died Thursday, June 27, 2002 at St. Francis Skilled Care after a lengthy illness. Services will be Monday, July 1, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island with Pastor Joel Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Kleine Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 P.M. Memorials are suggested to the donors choice.
Mr. Alexander was born November 26, 1928 to James Earl and Florence (Scoville) Alexander in Grand Island, Nebraska. He attended Grand Island schools and graduated from Doniphan High School. He married Mary Gartner on
August 4, 1950 in Grand Island. The couple lived in Doniphan and moved to Grand Island in 1965. He worked as a mechanic at Arrow Pontiac and Graf Motors, and then retired after working for New Holland for seventeen years.
Donald was a member of St. Puals Lutheran Church, the Platt Duetsche, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, camping, and going to Texas for the winters. Earlier they enjoyed motorcycling and belonged to the Grand Island Retreads Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; one sister, Ruth Compton of Concord, California; a daughter, Terri Dethlefs of Grand Island; two sons, Ron and Winnie of Grand Island and Brad and Lori of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; eight
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved and adored.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Ralph, James, and Lee; two sisters, Betty Thaden and Doris Spellman.
