Donna Belle Elizabeth Dettmer, 85 of Syracuse was born on August 1, 1929 near Johnson, NE to Fred and Pearl (Holscher) Naber. She passed away at home surrounded by her family on June 29, 2015. At the young age of 1 ½ years, her family moved to a farm southeast of Syracuse. Donna Belle attended rural school District #58 and graduated from Syracuse High School in 1947. Upon completion of a secretarial course, Donna Belle graduated from the Lincoln School of Commerce.

Donna Belle was employed by Standard Reliance Insurance Company until her marriage to Arthur Dettmer. Donna Belle and Art were married on March 4, 1952 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Osage, near Cook. After Art was discharged from the Air Force, the couple lived in the Syracuse area and had four children Allen, John, Annette and David. Donna Belle and Art joined Luther Memorial Church where she was a faithful member until she passed away.

Donna Belle was active in many church activities including singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and participating in WELCA. Donna Belle considered her volunteer work at the VFW Auxiliary #5547 as her hobby and she held many different offices including President for several years. Donna Belle was also employed by Syracuse Good Samaritan as a nursing assistant for 17 years.

Donna Belle is survived by her sons Allen (Rhonda) of Syracuse, John & friend Janis of Syracuse, David (Nancy) of Charlotte, NC and her daughter, Annette (John) Chester of Virginia Beach, VA. Donna Belle had seven grandchildren, Candace Dettmer of Kenai, AK, Corey (Paula) Dettmer, of Hereford, AZ, Taylor Dettmer and Eli Dettmer of Syracuse, and Anna Dettmer, Katy Dettmer and Will Dettmer of Charlotte, NC, and five great-grandchildren, Shawn, Tyler, twin great-grandsons Conner and Nathaniel, and Madilyn.

She was preceded in death by husband Arthur John Dettmer, and her parents Fred and Pearl Naber.
