Edward Paul Heard, 65, of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Serenity Hospice in Phoenix. He was born November 14, 1949, in Evansville, to the late Marvin Paul and Betty Jane (Higgs) Heard.

He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the US Army and was awarded the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Bronze Three Loops, Expert Field Medical Badge, and Expert in Rifle. Edward authored the book "1969." He was a member of Gatun Lodge of Ancient Free & Accepted Masons for 38 years; Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite – Valley of Evansville – Orient of Indiana; Shriners International – Hadi Temple; a life member of Phoenix Chapter Number 1 of the Disabled American Veterans; Member at Large of Veterans of Foreign Wars; and a life member of The American Legion Sgt. Alvin C. York Post 100.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Anthony "Tony" Wayne Heard and Michael Pierce Heard.

He is survived by his sister, Betty R. Heard; nieces,Tracy (Robert) Fritts, Sarah (Brian) Pullum, and Angela (Phillip) Dalton Rushing; great-nieces and nephew, Brittany and Robert Fritts and Kearsten and Hailey Dalton.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Monday, June 29, 2015, at Alexander West Chapel officiated by Pastor Brett Doninger with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM and Monday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
