2nd Lieutenant Lymon Cox Bleecker was an observer (bombardier) in the 96th Aero Squadron during WWI. This Squadron was the first in the United Air Service to have bombardment as its sole mission. The Squadron was based at the Amanty Airdrome in France. Lieutenant Bleecker was assigned to the Squadron on September 5, 1918, and flew on several bombing missions in a Breguet 14 bomber. On September 12, following a successful bombing raid on Vigneulles, he survived a crash of the Breguet he was in that killed his pilot 1st Lieutenant Ed Cronin. 2nd Lieutenant Bleecker transferred from the Squadron October 8, 1918, prior to the Armistice.
