Tustin - Wilber C. (Bill) Kidder, 78, justice of the piece and one of Michigan's pioneer law enforcement officers, died at his home here Sunday afternoon.
He was a conservation officer for35 years from July 1, 1911 until January 1, 1946.
Mr. Kidder had been ill since January 22 when he suffered a hip fracture in a fall.
Ex-Sheriff in Osceola
Mr. Kidder was sheriff of Osceola County from 1905 to 1909. At that time he was the youngest sheriff in Michigan.
Mr. Kidder was born in Tustin, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Kidder, pioneer Osceola County residents. When he was 21 he was marshal of Tustin Village.
At one time Mr. Kidder was the only game warden from the state line north to Mackinaw City.
Son is Supervisor
A son Karl Kidder is district Supervisor for the Conservative Department in the Baldwin District.
Other survivors are his wife, Grace; a son Jack, of Hammond, Indiana; two daughters, Mrs. Josephine Ewing, Mayville and Mrs. Susan Montague, Bay City; and a sister, Mrs. Hazel Glenn of Battle Creek.
Services were held Wednesday at the Tustin First Presbyterian church. Burial in Burdell Township Cemetery.
