Hays -- Pia Staab, 85, Hays, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at a Hays hospital.

She was born Dec. 14, 1915, in Victoria, the daughter of John Peter and Maria Dreiling Geist. Mrs. Staab was a homemaker. Mrs. Staab was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

She married Charles C. Staab on April 24, 1934, at Catherine. He survives, of the home.

Survivors also include four sons, Kenneth Staab, Topeka, Willard Staab, Omaha, Neb., Wayne Staab, Phoenix, and Lyle Staab, Strongsville, Ohio; three daughters, Twila Herrman, LaCrosse, Donna Fisher, Marysville, and Carol Elias, Indianapolis; two sisters, Olinda Jensen, Ascadera, Calif., and Rose Butler, Gorham; 27 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Carrie McElhinney.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays. Burial will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria. A parish vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, Hays.
