John M. Irons, 47, of 434 2nd Ave. was fatally hurt Sunday near the underpass on Rt. 8, not far from Pottstown. Iron's auto skidded into the concrete viaduct after running off the road while coming out of a sharp curve.

Irons was alive at the scene but was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Francis Hospital.

Born Sept. 19, 1908, in Kirksville, Mo., Irons was a son of John M. and Gertrude Phelps Irons. He married Mildred O. Thomason Sept. 16, 1952, in St. Louis.

He had been a truck driver for G. R. Pitman for 12 years.

Surviving are his wife; his mother, Gertrude Irons of Hartsburg, Mo.; four sons, Dale Lee of Streator, Gene Edward, James Eugene and John Timothy, all of Peoria; four daughters, Mrs. Joan Partin of St. Louis, Miss Rita Mae Irons, Miss Donna Marie Irons and Miss Debrah Lynn, all of Peoria; one brother, Raymond Irons of Abington, and one sister, Mrs. Lora Ferguson of Kirksville, Mo.

Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.
