Born Aug. 16, 1911, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Fred and Annie Weaver Whitener.
He was a retired golf course superintendent from Catawba Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Braswell Whitener; a sister, Ruth Hodge of Hickory; a nephew, Wayne Holden of Newland; a niece, Barbara Spurlin of Hickory; and a number of other nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Bass-Smith Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park.
