Today I'm proud to remember Pete Donnell who was KIA on April 26, 1968 while serving with the 101st near Thua Thien. From what I can find, it appears Pete was killed by small arms fire while his unit was involved in a sweeping action near their fire base. I remember Pete from Beast. He roomed with Sam Champi and Mike Wynne and rumor has it that Pete was instrumental in showing them the ropes!! After Beast, I lost track of Pete and would hope people could share more details.

Pete and I were plebes and yearlings together in B-1. He was a great guy. Quiet and very self assured. His class ring became available some years ago and as I had lost mine I requested to wear his ring. I had it refitted and wore it very proudly. I am sad to say, the ring was stolen along with my computer, cell phone and other valuables at the San Francisco airport. Obviously, I never should have taken the ring off and am sorry that I did.
Pete, I think of you often and cherished the days I was able to wear your ring.
Rest In Peace.
