Edith was one of five children born to Edward Higginbotham and Maude Autterson. She married John Bartis Hoover on 30 March 1925 in Vigo County, Indiana. They had one child before that marriage ended in divorce.

Edith married William Stewart on 20 April 1936 in Rush County, Indiana. That marriage also ended in divorce.

Her last marriage was to Eugene V. Oxford on 25 September 1948. She was affectionate known as "Chick" by husband and family. Regrettably, she endured major health problems during the last ten years of her life.

Her obituary in the Terre Haute Tribune (8 Jan 1998), relates that she was survived by her husband and son, and two sisters: Mrs. Jane Brown, Indianapolis; Mrs. Mary Hall, West Terre Haute; and a brother, Walter Graham, New Goshen.

(A special thanks to Brian Smead for his transfer of this memorial to my care.)
