Death of Mrs. Filler.
Mrs. Rebecca Filler, widow of Rev. Samuel Filler, died at her pleasant home near Moyerhoeffer's Store, on the evening of February 8th, 1900, aged 74 years, 3 months and 24 days.

Mrs. Filler was born, brought up, and spent nearly her entire life on the farm where she died. Into her life were crowded more than the usual amount of afflictions to which mortals are subjected while passing through this vale of
tears. In early womanhood she was married to the Rev. Samuel Filler, a Lutheran minister, and a native of Loudoun county, Va. To them were born four daughters and one son.

On the 8th day of March, 1861, the Death Angel first visited her happy home and took the darling youngest daughter, the pet of the household. This was at the
time when the dark clouds of war were rapidly gathering over our dear country. But calamities rarely come singly, and on the 7th day of December, of the same year, her husband was also removed by the hand of death, thus leaving her a widow with four fatherless children. However, she was a woman of unusual courage and energy, and met heroically the difficulties that were thrown in her pathway.

But her cup of sorrow was not yet full. Her three daughters grew up into womanhood, the most beautiful and lovely in all the country. All married most worthy husbands, and had promise of long and happy lives. But, alas, for human
hopes! That subtle disease, consumption, claimed one after another, until the last one was laid beneath the sod in the beautiful cemetery at Cross Keys. Each one of them left an infant child for the grandmother to care for, and thus
nearly her entire life was spent in caring for and bringing up fatherless children, and how well she did her work is attestted by the characters of these.

Yesterday they all gathered around the grave of "Mamma," as they all called her, and shed tears of affection and sympathy.

And now the son, Mr. Jno. R. Filler, so well and favorably known in this county, is left, as the only surviving member of the family. His many friends extend to him their kindest sympathies in this time of sore bereavement, and commend him to the grace of that God who is able to comfort His children, when all earthly friends are powerless. Saturday morning Rev. G. E. Krauth, of Harrisonburg, preached a most comforting funeral sermon, in Cross Keys church, from the words, "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, from henceforth, yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them."
