HALFMOON/MECHANICVILLE - Sigismund L. Sapinski, 92, of Halfmoon/Mechanicville, passed away peacefully at his home on June 21, 2015.
Born November 17, 1922, in Rutland, Vt., he is the son of the late Stephen and Pauline Sapinski.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Helen Smyrski, Felicia Calogero and Walter Sapinski.
Siggie graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School in 1941.
He joined the Army in the 191st Tank Battalion in Northern Africa and Europe.
After the war, he worked as an electrician for the Rutland Railroad.
In the 1960's, he joined the Delaware & Hudson Railroad until 1983.
After retiring from the railroad, Siggie joined the Mannheim Auto Auction and worked there until 2013.
Siggie loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a great baseball player and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed polka dancing and golf, once shooting a hole-in-one.
Burial will take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park.
