W.N.Safford note-Cornelius Wesley McGuire is said to have been born in (the area that became part of) Lincoln Co., TN, on or near the land he lived his life on (which straddled the present day Lincoln/Giles border). In 1801, the area that is now Lincoln and Giles was Davidson Co. and Indian Lands. In 1803, Rutherford formed. In 1807, Bedford formed from Rutherford. In 1809, the lower part of Bedford became Lincoln. Giles formed in 1809 from Indian Lands, with a portion of Maury added in 1810. As of 1809, even the TN/AL border still had not been clearly defined. Without knowing the exact spot where Cornelius was born, it can't be said for certain whether he was born in present day Lincoln or Giles TN (or, less likely, even Madison or Limestone, AL), but for the sake of most closely identifying where he was believed to have been born, I have entered his birth place as Lincoln Co., TN.
