Bernard was the 2nd of three sons of Albert and Mary Holtschulte Rushley. His brothers were Frank (1902-1973) and Willard Antone (1905-?). Albert died in 1909 and was buried in the Newark Ohio cemetery with the Holtschulte family. Mary and her sons lived with her parents in Newark for awhile (Frank and Katharine Holtschulte). Mary remarried in 1916 to Jasper Alflen. Bernard and Anna Cecilia Wieland were married in about 1925 and had two sons--Earl V (1928-1963) and Eugene (1929-1995). Bernard worked for the railroad and the family lived in Detroit for several years before returning to central Ohio.
