Larry attended Warren Harding Jr. High and graduated from Des Moines Technical High School with the Class of 1958. He worked for at tree trimming service before entering the United States Army in September of 1959. Larry was honorably discharged in September of 1962 and returned to Des Moines. In 1965 Larry graduated from Des Moines Police Training School. He was a police officer for the City of Des Moines for 7 years. On April 23, 1971 Larry was united in Marriage to JoAnn Raye Dorris in Des Moines, Iowa. He was then employed by the Crouse Cartage Company as a truck driver for 27 1/2 years. Larry then drove a truck for Jacobson Company until retiring in October of 2000 and moving to Knoxville. He was a member of Teamsters Local 147.
One of his great joys was performing as a Buffalo Bill Cody impersonator. He was well-known and performed at shows and events throughout the Midwest. In his spare time, Larry played in the Freightliners Band and had a taxidermy business. As a young man, he was interested in magic and held many shows. He was most proud of his family and cherished the time they spent together.
Larry passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at his home at the age of 74 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to cherish Larry's memory include his wife, JoAnn; children: April(Ed)Ramsey, Larry Rowen, Jr. and Jon Rowen all of Knoxville and Chris Rowen; 14 grandchildren; siblings: Chuck Rowen of Mankato, Minnesota; Randy Hoch of Spring, Texas; Ron Rowen of North Carolina and Peggy Hildebrandt of Rock Hill, South Carolina and many other family members and friends.
Funeral Service, Bybee & Davis Funeral Home-Knoxville, Iowa Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 11 am Rev. Norman Kolenbrander, Officiating. Interment Pleasantville Cemetery-Pleasantville, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. The family will receive friends from 9-10:30 am Wednesday morning at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home.
