Our beloved Herb, 85 of Twin Falls, Idaho formerly of Gooding, passed away at home on June 19, 2015.
He was born on September 14, 1929 in Ponca, Arkansas to Wert and Pearl Allred. He moved with his family to Twin Falls in 1942. In 1948 the family moved to King Hill, Idaho. Herb was a member of the Army from 1954-1957. He was stationed in Germany from 1955 through March 1957 and was honorably discharged in November 1957. On February 11, 1955 he married Shirley Jean Hopkins. Together they had two sons: Herbert Dean Allred, Jr. and Ricky Gene Allred. Herb was a lifelong farmer after completing his military service. In 1962 the Allred’s moved to Gooding where he farmed for many years before retiring in 2006 and moving to Twin Falls. This farm boy took to city life with gusto and soon developed a strong foursome with his daily walking buddies: Vic Graybeal; Jack Clifford; and Ellis Reddick. This group of friends walked daily three miles or more.
Herb is remembered very fondly for his quick wit; infectious laugh, jokes and his love of family and friends. He never met a stranger and made both new and old friends welcome and comfortable.
Herb is preceded in death by his son: Ricky Gene Allred, his parents Wert and Pearl Allred; his brother Denver Allred; and sisters, Helen Arbaugh and Ora Decker.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Shirley, son Herbert (Becky) Allred; grandsons: Brian and Josh (Sabrina) Allred two great granddaughters: Isabella and Cristiana Allred as well as his sister Shirley Lisle. He leaves a very large extended family who will miss him greatly. And finally he leaves his loyal and dedicated four legged friend Sophie. We are blessed to have had him as part of our family and he will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel.
