John A. Ackerman, Sr., 65, of Bethlehem Township, entered the nearer presence of his Lord and Saviour on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at his home. Born: in Easton, he was a son of the late Paul and Evelyn Hunt Ackerman. Personal: He and his wife, Eileen P. Hittinger Ackerman, celebrated their 44th anniversary in January. He was a graduate of Easton High School and earned his B. A. in Business Administration and Economics at Moravian College. John was owner and operator of various businesses in the Lehigh Valley, and initially was an accountant for Air Products after college. Memberships: He was a member of East Hills Moravian Church in Bethlehem, where he served as a Trustee, Sacristan, usher coordinator and played on the church softball team; John was a volunteer with ShareCare Faith in Action. Survivors: wife; a son John A. Ackerman, Jr. of Lehighton; a daughter Linda Dirga and her daughters Kaylee and Sierra of Melbourne, FL; a brother P. William Ackerman of Allentown; four sisters, Marilyn Yankovich of Schnecksville, Evelyn Snyder of Fleetwood, Joan Stueber of Vero Beach, FL, and Mary Ellen Einfalt of Belfast. John was preceded in death by his sister Pauline Flynn. Services: A Celebration of John's life will be held Tuesday, July 13 at 11 a.m. in East Hills Moravian Church, 1830 Butztown Road, Bethlehem, 18017.
