Ethel N. Harding, 91, of Charles Town, W.Va., formerly of Gaithersburg, died Aug. 13, 2003, at Shenandoah Health Village Center in Charles Town. Mrs. Harding was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Nortonsville, Va., the daughter of the late Mack and Fannie Mae Shifflett. She was married to the late Benjamin Joseph Harding, who died in 1979. Mrs. Harding was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Redlyn, Md. She was a volunteer in the soup kitchen at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Gaithersburg and a former member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the YMCA. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Marie Burdette of Charles Town; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three foster children, Pearl Payne, Christine Bradshaw and Shirley Burdette, all of Gaithersburg. Mrs. Harding was predeceased by one daughter, Gloria Ann Carter, one son, Benjamin J. Harding Jr., seven sisters and seven brothers. Graveside services were held Friday at Forest Oak Cemetery in Gaithersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Shenandoah Health Village Center for the Alzheimer's Fund, 219 Prospect Ave., Charles Town, WV 25414. Arrangements were handled by the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
