He was married to Ellen Reeter in 1857 and to this union were born six children all of whom have passes away. After twelve years of wedded life she too was called away. He was married the second time to Margaret Hall, July 1, 1869 at Brazil, Indiana. To this union were born six children, four of whom are living, viz, W.D. and Irene of this place, Mrs. R.A. Foster of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Oliver Scow of Manhattan, Montana.
Mr. Fortner came to Illinois and settled near Windsor where he lived for two years. He returned to Indiana in 1883 and only remained a short time when again he came to this state and lived here most of the time.
About two years ago he became sick and never fully recovered, about two months ago he took his bed. When 18 years of age he united with the Christian church and always attended services when able.
The funeral Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the home.
