Rosalind Paulina Gast

Rosalind Paulina Gast, a Portland homemaker who was active in women's clubs on the national, state and local level, died in a local hospital Monday. She was 67.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Riverview Cemetery Chapel. Private interment will be in Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum.

Mrs. Gast, for a period of 14 years beginning in 1956 and continuing through 1970, was appointed and elected to head several women's and civic organization.

She was elected president in 1960 of the Oregon Federation of Women's Clubs, and was appointed during the 1960s by Oregon Govs. Mark O. Hatfield and Tom McCall to the Oregon Council on Crime and Delinquency, the Governor's Committee for Children and Youth and the Governor's Advisory Committee on Arts and Humanities.

In 1963, Mrs. Gast was selected as one of four panelists to appear with Secretary of State Dean Rusk on the premiere of the television series "Women on the Move," a show that addressed world affairs. At the time she was first vice president of the Western States Conference of the General Federation of Women's Clubs.

Mrs. Gast, also was elected recording secretary of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, a nationwide organization, and served as president of the Salem Junior Women's Clubs, Portland Zenith Club, and Marion County Federation of Women's Clubs.

Her activities also included membership in the Japanese Garden Society, Portland President's Club and Portland Sorosis.

She is survived by her husband, Fred C. Gast, Sr. of Portland; and two sons, Fred C. Jr. and Stefan P., both of Portland; and two grandchildren.

The family suggests that remembrances be contribution to Providence Medical Foundation, Respiratory Disease Research; or the Japanese Garden Society, P.O. Box 3847, Portland 97208.
