Sad Death -
On Friday, April 17, Percy C. the 10-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Thayer, living near O'Connor. Together with some more boys about his own age, were indulging in the pastime of jumping. Percy was very fond of athletic sports, and always strove to excel his companions in their exercises. In his efforts on this occasion he overdid and injured himself internally. He was taken down to his bed next day, and finally the hurt developed into inflammation of the bowels, from which he died, after a great deal of suffering, on last Sunday morning. He was followed to his last resting place on Monday by his parents and many friends of the family.

Percy was a boy of most pleasant and genial disposition, and a great favorite with all who knew him. The afflicted father and mother have the heartfelt sympathy of the whole community in the grief that a parent thus bereft can only know.

The St. Paul Phonograph, May 8, 1885, transcribed by Linda Berney [Same article ran in The Scotia Herald, April 29, 1885, page 1]
