Rebecca's father died in the Civil War when she was five years old, and two years later her mother remarried to widower Isaac Newton Fisher. (She is shown as "Rachel J. Fisher" in the 1860 census.) On 7 April 1877 she married Isaac's nephew James Tillman Massey.
Till and Rebecca, along with many family members on both sides, moved to the Burleson County, Texas, area in the late 1870s. Till and Rebecca were enumerated here in 1880 with daughter Mary Josephine (Mollie).
In addition to Mollie, the couple had William Isaac (Willie), James Robert (Bob), Eugene (Jake), Nelie Holmes, Leslie Herps, and - according to family lore - Irvin (died as an infant c1893/4).
Rebecca died 20 April 1894, although the Galveston Daily News reported on the 22 that she had died the day before. Their blurb reads as follows: "MRS. TILL MASSEY. Caldwell, Tex., Apr. 22 - Mrs. Till Massey died very suddenly last night. Her home was near Providence church. She leaves a husband and children. She was 40 years of age."
(Assuming her headstone and most censuses are correct, the paper added two years to her age.)
Rebecca is buried to the right of her mother, although her mother's headstone was removed by vandals in the 1980s. It is assumed that her husband, who was murdered two years after she died, is buried on her other side.
