Kingsley Walton Martin was born at his family home in Staten Island, NY the son of Ira Kingsley Martin and Sarah Martin née Coats. His father worked in the insurance business. He prepared at St. Paul's School, Concord, New Hampshire. Martin received his MD at Columbia and interned at Roosevelt Hospital, New York City, 1892-1894. He studied in Germany in 1896; physician and surgeon in New York City 1895-1949; was on the faculty at Columbia 1895-1949 (demonstrator of anatomy, chief of clinic and instructor of surgery, associate in surgery, associate professor surgery, professor of clinical surgery), trustee and on staff at St. Luke's Hospital, author Quiz Compend of Chemistry, editor: Bergmann's System of Practical Surgery, revised Green's Introduction to Pathology, contributed to Nelson's Loose Leaf Surgery and Lewis's Practice of Surgery. Served overseas from November 1914 to April 1915 at Mrs. Whitney's American Ambulance Hospital of Paris 2 Bis at Juilly, (organized hospital at Juilly under French Army; on executive committee American Ambulance Hospital, Paris); fellow American College of Surgeons and American Surgical Association, member of New York Surgical Society, New York State Medical Association, American Society of Thoracic Surgery, and Grace Church (Episcopal), New York City.
Married January 28, 1921, in Newport, Rhode Island to Charlotte Bronson Winthrop Hunnewell Sorchan, daughter of Holles and Louisa (Bronson) Hunnewell. Death due to cerebral hemorrhage. Buried in Cornwall Cemetery.
