William L. "Bill" Blevins
William L. "Bill" Blevins, 85, of Meridian, died Monday, June 8, 1998 at a Boise hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 12, at the Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. Services are under the direction of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
Bill was born on Jan. 25, 1913, in Gabels, Neb., a son of Albert and Mary Elizabeth Blevins. He had four sisters, Alberta, Mildred, Maxine and Dora, and three brothers, George, Charles and Howard. He attended school in Gabels and several other towns where his parents moved to in Nebraska.
He married the love of his life, Pearl Jeanette Laken, in Chapel, Neb. on May 18, 1933. They had one daughter, Merna Jean, born in Ogalalla, Neb. on Dec. 8, 1934.
In 1935, Bill and his family moved to Junction City, Ore., where he worked in the timber and also agriculture, and worked in a Flax Plant during the war. In 1944, they moved to a dry land farm and cattle ranch in Akron, Colo. These were good years when Bill was President of the School Board and was active in all Merna's school activities. Because of bad hail and wind storms and no rain they sold out to move to Parma, Idaho in 1954. Bill bought a dairy farm; he loved cattle and never complained about getting up at 4 am. to milk and feed the cows. His grandchildren, Jeanette and Rich got up with him to drive the tractor and ride in the stinky ensilage wagon, and help feed the cows.
Bill had to retire in 1972 because of congestive heart disease. They moved to Caldwell, where they enjoyed their daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In 1997, they moved to Meridian because of bad health and to be closer to Merna. Bill and Pearl just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on May 18, 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl, one daughter, Merna Frerichs; a granddaughter, Jeanette Love and her husband, John; a grandson, Richard Frerichs and his wife, Keni; five great-grandchildren, Travis Earil, Tyler Basler, Timothy Basler, Brittney Frerichs, and R. G. Frerichs; one sister, Maxine, of Junction City, Ore.; one brother; Howard and his wife, Shirley of Albany, Ore.
