MANY MOURN MRS. S. A. READ
Mrs. Saide Adams Read, widow of the late Laurence W. Read and member of one of the oldest of Stockton pioneer families, passed away at midnight of yesterday at her home, 1237 North San Joaquin street. Mrs. Read had been confined to her home by illness for the past 10 years, and had been falling perceptibly since the first of the year. During these years she bore her suffering with a brave spirit, and the pain caused by her illness was alleviated by the host of friends who visited her at her home. Almost daily, girls and boys of the Stockton high school visited her, drawn there by her gracious hospitality and lovable personality.
Mrs. Read was born in Sacramento, and reared in Stockton. As a girl she was a belle of this city, and in her young womanhood was prominent in the social life of both this city and the bay region.
She was a sister of the late Henry E. Adams and Franklin Adams of Washington, D. C., Irwin Adams of Oakland, Edith Adams Shaw of Los Angeles, Howard W. Adams of Madison, California, and Russell B. Adams of Berkeley.
Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock from the chapel of B. C. Wallace. Friends are invited to attend the services. Interment will be made in Rural cemetery.
