He was born Feb. 6, 1923, to Charles and Mabel (Bailey) Wolfe in Austin, Minn., where he grew up and received his education. He married Corrine Ramsdell on Oct. 31, 1942, in Lancaster, Mo. On May 13, 1943, he left for Fort Snelling to serve in World War II. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Charles returned to work for Hormel Foods Corp. in the grinding room, Spam department. He retired after 42 years. A member of Crane Chapel and the American Legion, he loved golfing and bowling. He played guitar and harmonica, entertaining at nursing homes. Charles and Corrine spent winters in Arizona camping, biking and fishing. Charles enjoyed gardening at their home in Austin.
Survivors include two sons: Michael (Beth) Wolfe, of Little Canada, Minn.; Randy (Jolynn) Wolfe, of Boyceville, Wis.; one daughter, Barbara (Randy) Bacon, of Austin, Minn.; seven grandchildren: Scott, Derek, Danny, Heidi, Erika, Austin and Tyler; three great-grandchildren: Madeline, Ellie and Tharon; brother, Donald (Alberta) Wolfe, of Austin, Minn.; sisters: Norma Diaz, of Austin, Minn.; and Delores (Gene) Cafourek, of Stewartville, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Corrine "Corky" in 2005; his parents; sister, Dorothy Kumke; grandson, David Schmidt; and twin great-granddaughters, Katie Noelle and Elizabeth Elaine.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2006, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with The Reverend Mark Goosen officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91.
Memorials are preferred to Crane Community Chapel, Austin.
