"Funeral services for Mrs. Medora Amsberry Runyan of Mason City were held from the Baptist Church at Mason City on Monday afternoon, December 27. Mrs. Runyan died at her home in Mason City early Sunday morning after an illness of several weeks, death resulting from heart trouble. She was born on May 31, 1856 and came to Custer County in 1878, homesteading part of the original site of Mason City.
Mrs. Runyan was married to George W. Runyan at Grand Island in 1879 and they moved to Mason City where Mr. Runyan received his appointment as Postmaster when the post office was first established, and with the exception of a few years when they resided at Broken Bow, made their home at Mason City. They were the first parents of children to be born at Mason City. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge at Mason City and a member and past president of The American Legion Auxiliary of that place.
Surviving Mrs. Runyan are five sons; Ira, William, Willis and Glen of Mason City and Merl M. of Broken Bow and two daughters, Mrs. Ada Watson of York and Mrs. Blanche Rumery of Mason City and two sisters and two brothers."
