Sylvester, Ga - Alton E. "Shorty" Jones, 57, of Sylvester
died Monday at his residence after a brief illness. The
funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Antioch Baptist
Church with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. The Revs.
George Burnham, Ed McGee and Jerry Cooper will officiate.
A native of Turner County, Mr. Jones had resided in Worth
County most of his life. He was a farmer and a member of
Antioch Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife,
Jeanette Kilcrease Jones of Sylvester; two sons, A.
Jeffery Jones and W. Scott Jones, both of Sylvester; a
daughter, Donna J. Johnson of St. Simons Island; his
stepmother, Mrs. John E. Jones Sr. of Sylvester; four
brothers, John E. Jones Jr., Clarence Jones, William T.
Jones and Tommy Jones all of Sylvester; a sister, Geneva
J. Gunter of Sylvester; and two grandchildren. Visitation
will be 7-9 p.m. today at Banks Funeral Home. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer
Society, c/o Mrs. Charles W. Strangward, 100 Green
Shutters Lane, Sylvester, Ga 31791
