Mrs. Cora Johnston
CALDWELL — Mrs. Cora E. Johnston, 87, of Notus, a long-time resident of Canyon county, died early Monday morning in a Caldwell hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Johnston was born Aug. 2, 1871, in Blandensville, Ill. When she was 12 years of age, her parents came west by immigration train to San Francisco, by ship from San Francisco to Portland and by train and stage coach to the Grande Ronde valley of eastern Oregon. She was married Sept. 28, 1890, at Summerville, Ore., to James F. Johnston and they lived in Elgin and Enterprise, Ore., until moving to Notus in 1905. Mr. Johnston died March 23, 1955, in Caldwell.
She was a member of the Christian church and a charter member of the Rebekah lodge at Enterprise, later transferring to the Gem of the Mountains Rebekah lodge of Caldwell, to which she had been affiliated more than 50 years.
Surviving are three sons, Roy of Glenns Ferry, Dewey of Notus and Ted Johnston of Boise; three daughters. Mrs. E. E. Little of Kuna, Mrs. C. O. Cason of Nampa and Mrs. Dalton Varner of Caldwell; a sister, Mrs. Anna Brown of Edmonds, Wash., and three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at the Flahiff chapel Wednesday at 2 p. m. The Rev. Murl M. Jones will officiate. Vault interment will be at Canyon Hill.
