son of George P. and Margaret Shifler/Shiffler;
siblings: Susan, John, Magdalena, George, Peter, William, Louis and Henry.
He is seen through all the census years as Philip, however his son, Carl, filled in his name as John P on the death certificate.
Philip is buried in an unmarked grave in his family Lot with his two wives, Jane and Rebecca.
He first married Rebecca Katterman (her name is also seen spelled Cotterman, but her father spelled it "Katterman").
Philip and Rebecca had two children, Charles and Carrie.
After Rebecca's early death, Philip then married Jane Williamson.
They had three children, Carl, Roy and Mary (all buried here at Mifflin).
His surname is seen spelled Shiffler and Shifler,
On his wives' tombstone inscriptions he had it spelled "Shifler" for Rebecca;
and then it is spelled "Shiffler" for Jane.
They are even on the same stone together!
It appears that in the "older" records it is spelled with one "F" and as years passed they all started spelling it with two "F's"
