CARRIER - Catharine Carrier was born in Rockingham County, Virginia, October 15, 1798 and departed this life near North White River Christian Church, July 10, A.D. 1888, aged 89 years, 8 months and 26 days. [ed. note: North White River Christian Church was located on the northeast corner of Randolph County Roads 500 W and 300 N.]

She was married about the year 1817 [ed. note: correct marriage year is 1821]. She lived with her husband 59 years, then she lived a widow the remaining 12 years of her life. She had twelve children, six of them, 3 sons and 3 daughters are living, four of whom were present at the time of her death. Her husband and six of her children preceded her to the eternal world.

Mother Carrier joined the Christian Church about 11 years ago, and has lived a consistent Christian life. She leaves a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends to mourn their loss, but their loss is her eternal gain. During her last, long and painful illness, she bore her sufferings with great Christian fortitude and often expressed a wish to be released from earth and to be clothed with immortality and everlasting life. She died in the full triumphs of faith and with the full assurances of joining that innumerable host who have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

The funeral exercises were conducted at New Dayton, by Revs. J.A. Wetzel and A. Rust, July 11.

Pall bearers: Ephram Shaver, Jac. Jones, Josiah Roach, Daniel Summers, Jno. Shaver, and Dr. Samers.
