Reuben Gene Allphin

Santa Clara, Utah - Reuben Gene Allphin, 58, of 2795 Red Mountain Road, formerly of Washington, Terrace, died Saturday, September 7, 1985, at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City of pulmonary fibrosis. He was born September 15, 1926, in Lovell, Wyoming, a son of Reuben L., and Ella Asay Allphin.

He married JoAnn Williams on August 12, 1949, in the Idaho Falls Temple.

He was reared and educated in Lovell, Wyoming and had worked as a brick and plaster mason with his father. He was later active as a builder and real estate broker in Ogden.

He taught school at Bonneville High School from 1975 to 1978. He received a bachelor's degree in behavioral genetics from the College of Behavioral Science in Salt Lake City, and had a behavioral counseling practice in St. George at the time of his death.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He had served two terms on the Washington Terrace City Council.

He was a member of the Santa Clara LDS 2nd Ward. He was the first bishop of the Washington Terrace 8th Ward, serving for five years. He served a mission to New England and held many other positions, including teacher, high councilman, and temple worker.

He was a talented artist and was noted for his many short stories, prose, poetry and oil paintings. He was the editor of a weekly newspaper, the "Eagle Review," and wrote the weekly editorial entitled "Wagon Tracks."

Surviving are his widow of Santa Clara; two sons and four daughter, Michael Allphin, Bountiful; Mark Allphin, Cody, Wyoming; Mrs. Don (Janet) Judkins, Plain City; Mrs. James (Shanna) Dunyon, Uinta; Mrs. Rick (Sandy) Nelson and Mrs. Tom (Lisa)Gubler, both of Santa Clara, Utah; 21 grand children.

Also surviving are two brothers and four sisters, Alva Allphin, Cody, Wyoming; McKay Allphin, Lovell, Wyomng; Velda Neilson, West Jordan; Anne Chatterton, Pocatello, Idaho; June Dickey, Payson: Ella Mae Hatch, Lovell, Wyoming.
