Note: There appears to be no gravestone for Florence M. Snyder. This memorial is based on her original 1896 death ledger entry and the official delayed death record created for her in 2010 by the Clerk, Office of Register of Wills, Schuylkill County in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Both records confirm that Florence M. Snyder died on 3 January 1896, and was interred at Brock Cemetery in Ashland on 7 January 1896.

Born on 12 March 1883 in Ashland, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, Florence M. ("Flora") Snyder was a daughter of Timothy Matthias Snyder (1840-1889), a native of Rebuck in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, and Catharine (Boyer) Snyder (1850-1918), a native of Weishample, Schuylkill County.

Flora was raised in Ashland, Pennsylvania with her siblings: John Hartranft Snyder (1873-1944), Timothy Grant Snyder (1876-1925), William Emery Snyder (1885-1944), Lillie May Snyder (1887-1956), and Salome E. Snyder (1889-1890).*

Flora's father, Tim, had served with Company C (the "Sunbury Guards") of the 47th Pennsylvania Volunteers during the Civil War, and supported his growing family as a carpenter in the Ashland area. He died unexpectedly on 10 May 1889 while Flora's mother was eight months pregnant with the last Snyder child, Salome. The "Reading Eagle" made the following brief mention in its Ashland news coverage of Tim Snyder's passing: "Tim Snyder, a carpenter living near 13th and Centre streets, died suddenly of heart disease." He was interred with military honors at Brock Cemetery in Ashland.

Sadly, Flora Snyder also passed away a few short years later. Sometime around Christmas in 1895, she contracted with diphtheria. (Her death ledger entry indicates that she had been ill with the disease for two weeks prior to her death on 3 January 1896.)

Flora's mother, Kate, was also sick - before, during and/or shortly after Florence's illness. A notice in the 4 February 1896 edition of the "Reading Eagle" notes that: "Mrs. Timothy Snyder, of Walnut st., who has been very sick with pneumonia, is improved."

Florence M. ("Flora") Snyder succumbed to the effects of diphtheria on 3 January 1896, passing away at home in Ashland, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. She was interred at the Brock Cemetery in Ashland on 7 January 1896.

* Note: Flora's parents, Tim and Kate Snyder, had other children who did not survive their childhood (passing away before Flora was born) including: Henry E. Snyder (1870-1871), Mark M. Snyder (born and died on 6 July 1872), Laura Sevilla Snyder (1879-1880), and Franklin W. Snyder (July 1871-August 1871).
