Henry served as a Quarter Master Sergeant with the 11 Michigan Calvary Company-C. He enlisted on September 22, 1863 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was wounded in action. On October 2, 1864 he was wounded in action and taken prisoner of war in Saltville, Virginia. He was confined to Libby Prison and later released. He was promoted to Quarter Master Sergeant. His discharged came on July 27, 1865. He was also a flag holder for the GRAND ARMY of the REPUBLIC.
