Janet Darlene Roinas, 78, of Creston, Illinois, passed away peacefully Friday, May 15, 2015, Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center, DeKalb.

Born August 22, 1936, in Madison, Minnesota, the daughter of Ordine and Mildred (Enger) Oleson, Janet married Eugene D. “Gene” Roinas on June 18, 1955, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Lee.

Janet worked as a proofreader at Rochelle News Leader for many years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and its WELCA group, in Creston. Janet was a member of Creston Mothers Club. She loved to play cards and golf; in her later life, she loved to spoil her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Tom Roinas of DeKalb, Tammy (Vic) Cotto of Seven Hills, Ohio, Tim (Carla) Roinas of Antioch and Tracy (Scott) Langan of Naperville; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Connor, Kelsey, Joe, Jane, Sofie, Isaac, Paul and Natalie; sisters, Liz Weaver of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mary (Fred) Heal of Mason City; two sisters-in-law, Judee Darby of Tampa, Florida, and Shirley (John) Olson of Maple Park; brother-in-law, John (Betsy) Roinas of Rochelle; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, in 2011; and her parents.

The funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 126 East South Street, Creston, with the Rev. Ron Larson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Creston.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Janet D. Roinas Memorial Fund, sent to the Roinas Family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
