Death of Mrs. Albert J. Halvorson

This community was shocked last Saturday, December 1, 1900, when the news spread of the sudden death of Mrs. Albert J. Halvorson, who died at her home in Preston at 3:30 that afternoon as the immediate result of a surgical operation performed by Drs. Bodom, Gunderson and Sonnickson. Her condition was such that death would have taken place within a few days, and when informed that by submitting to an operation there might be one chance in a hundred for her to survive it, she concluded to take that one chance. The operation was performed at about noon and she gradually sank away until death ensued. Mrs. Halvorson’s health had been poor for two years, but she was able most of the time to discharge her household duties. Mrs. Halvorson was the oldest daughter of Mr. Martin Hanson, and was born in the town of Preston August 30, 1865. On Jun 6, 1893, she was married. Two children, boys, age 6 and 3 years, blessed her wedlock, both surviving her. Mrs. Halvorson was a member of the United Lutheran church and a Christian lady, affectionate wife and dutiful helpmate, and a loving mother. She took an active interest in church and society matters and her death is sincerely mourned by not only relatives, but by a large circle of acquaintances. Besides a husband she leaves a father, four sisters and five brothers: Mrs. Peter Herreid, Misses Mary Clara and Tillie, and Messrs. Morris, Madts, Henry, Alfpt and Theodore. The funeral was held at the house, and United Lutheran church in this village, Tuesday, Rev. Gulbrandson officiating, the services being very largely attended. The floral display was beautiful. The sympathy for Mr. Halvorson is great. He has been confined to the bed with a broken limb and it will be three weeks yet before he will be able to leave his couch.
