Eldon was born February 15, 1939, on the family farm (in the kitchen during a blizzard) to Lumir and Rose (Kvetensky) Hrouda. He was baptized and confirmed at New Zion Presbyterian Church. Eldon received his early education at District #34 Stanton County School and graduated from Stanton High School in 1957. On April 28, 1962, after a long pen pal relationship, Eldon married Darlene Jerabek in Silver Lake, Minnesota. Eldon was drafted into the United States Army later that year and the couple moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and later to Germany. Eldon was honorably discharged in 1964 and the couple moved back to Stanton to the family farm where he still lived.

Eldon farmed until 1987 and then began a 20 career driving school bus for Stanton Public Schools. He was a member of New Zion Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and usher. During the 1980’s, Eldon and Darlene were part of the “music parents” of the Stanton High School Band, serving as treasurers in 1986. Eldon was elected president of ZCBJ/WFLA Lodge in 1987 and still held the position. Eldon enjoyed Czech Days and helped with the events during Czech Days for several years.
