A native of Cordele, Mr. Barfield grew up in Macon and graduated from Dudley Hughes High School in 1965. He attended Georgia Southern College and moved to Tifton, where he was a sales representative with Master Builders.
Mr. Barfield was employed with AAA Concrete Products as vice president in 1989, moved to Albany in 1992 and served as president from 2001 until his retirement in 2013. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Albany and served as chairman of the committee to relocate the church from downtown Albany to Lee County. Mr. Barfield served as president of the Georgia Onsite Waste Water Association, as chairman of the Georgia Concrete and Products Association and served on the board of directors for other local and state organizations.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary McGraw Barfield; his daughters, Teresa Barfield Hummel (Matt), Donalyn Barfield Garrick (Matt) and Molly Sims Manning (Paul); his sons, Mac Sims (Dionne) and Sam Sims (Susan); five granddaughters and nine grandsons; his sisters, Virginia Barfield Wilson, Karen Barfield Holland (Jim), Jackie Barfield Norris (Lloyd) and Laquita Barfield Ratliff (Neil); two brothers, Billy Barfield (Bobbie) and Curtis Barfield (Patricia); and a brother-in-law, Alex McGraw (Barbara).
