Marian Helen Roeder, 86, of Johnston, Iowa, died June 4, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston from complications of a stroke.

Funeral Mass will be held Monday, 11:00 a.m., at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, Iowa with burial to follow at Cresco Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.

Marian was born May 4, 1929 in Templeton, Iowa to John and Helen (Neu) Taphorn. On January 29, 1951 she married Urban Roeder in Odebolt, Iowa.

Though Marian did not serve in the war, she contributed by dropping out of high school to help with the farm while her brother served. She eventually finished her education by attending high school in Fort Dodge. After marrying and farming near Ida Grove until 1969, Urban and Marian moved to rural Lime Springs and farmed until their retirement.
Marian moved to the Des Moines area in 2001 to be near family. She had the chance to travel to the East Coast and to various cities to visit her children and grandchildren, who will miss her dearly. Her deep faith in God was evident throughout her entire life. She enjoyed nature, ice cream, word puzzles and Wheel of Fortune.

She was preceded in death by her husband Urban in 1996; her daughter Rose Spence in 2013; three brothers; one sister; two grand daughters; and one grandson.
