The date of death 1 Nov 1895 is incorrect. He appears on the 1900 and 1910 Census in Indiana. He married his second wife (Martha Ann Swinford, FAG # 86187490) on 18 Mar 1897 in Vigo County, IN. There is a marriage certificate to verify this. In her obituary it lists William L Allen as deceased in 1912. He is buried by his first wife (Susan Elizabeth Baird) in Indiana.

William was born in Hardin (now LaRue) county, KY, son of Elijah Allen (1804-1886) and Sarah Pickerell (1810-1855). He married Susan Elizabeth Baird 5 March 1851 in LaRue county, KY.
In the 1870 Census for Linton, Vigo County, IN, William L. Allen was 38, farmer; wife Susan C. 41, and one son James P. age 18.
In the 1880 Census for Jackson Twp, Sullivan County, IN, 1 June 1880: William Allen was 48, a farmer born KY; wife Susan 51, and assisting on the farm was son James Allen, 29 born KY. A Boarder in the home was Swedish born Julius Berg, 33, a coal miner.
William L. Allen died 1 Nov 1895 the same date given on his wife's stone. This may be an erroneous date, but if not, it suggests they died on the same day, perhaps tragically.
