Robert Dennis Eckman, 76, of 170 E. Dewart St., Shamokin, passed away at 11:27 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2015, in Geisiger Medical Center, Danville.
Born Nov. 14, 1938, in Shamokin, he was a son of the late Dennis and Gertrude (Witcoski) Eckman.
Bob graduated in the last class of St Edward's High School in 1957.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis from 1961 to 1963.
On Nov. 30, 1968, in St. Edward's Church, Shamokin, he married Carole Mae Bamford, who passed away Jan. 10, 2011.
For more 20 years, he owned Eckman's Café at Fourth and Mulberry streets, Shamokin.
He was a life member of the Independence Fire Company and a member of the International Brotherhood of Laborers, Susquehanna Local.
He was a avid fan of Notre Dame football and Villanova basketball. He was a talented painter and wood carver, and loved to pick mushrooms and work in the garden. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Kelley Morrison and her husband, Edward, of Irish Valley, and Kasey Anderson, of Bozeman, Mont.; five grandchildren, Maxwell, Maggie and Alex Morrison, and Bobbi and Mack Anderson; his sisters and brother, Nancy Eckman and her companion, Al McWilliams, of Coal Township, Thomas Eckman and his wife, Ronda, of Coal Township, and Jan Nestico and her husband, Bernie, of Kulpmont; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Starke, of Coal Township, and Thomas and Jean Bamford, of Shamokin, and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin, with a Franciscan friar presiding. Burial was in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Farrow Funeral Home, Sixth and Chestnut streets, Shamokin, had charge of arrangements.
