November 15, 1942 - May 31, 2015"I hold you in my heart for we have shared together God's blessings." Philippians 1:7David Logan Glendening, beloved of the Lord, precious husband, father, grandfather, brother, physician and friend, has returned to his heavenly Father. He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Priscilla "Cissi" Berger Glendening, children Jessica and Layne Kasper, Joshua and Kenna Glendening, Julia and Eric Hagenburger, along with grandchildren London, Logan, Landry, Jacob, Eva, Blaine, Hugh and a grandson to be born in August. He is also survived by sister, Ruth Hansing, and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, Eva and Blaine Glendening, preceded him in death. He was born in Joplin, Missouri and raised in Manhattan, Kansas and Topeka, Kansas. After graduating from Kansas State University in 1964, he served as an officer in the U.S. Army with volunteer service in the Vietnam War before returning home to marry the love of his life and attend medical school. He then earned his MD degree in 1972 and completed his Internal Medicine Internship at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas in 1973. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii in 1975, before moving his growing family to San Antonio, Texas in 1977. He completed his Pulmonary Disease Fellowship in 1979 at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Following his Board Certification in both Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease, he chose to focus on Emergency Medicine for the remainder of his career. He was awarded various military medals and awards for his service in combat and his exemplary meritorious service throughout his career. He became a member of The Order of Military Medical Merit in 1990 before retiring from the U.S. Army after twenty-three years of service. Academic appointments included multiple positions at BAMC, including Pulmonologist and Emergency Physician, Medical ICU Director, and Assistant Chief Medical and Surgery Division at the BAMC Academy of Health Science. As an Emergency Physician, he also worked at St. Luke's Lutheran Hospital Emergency Room, University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio Emergency Medicine Department and the San Antonio VA Hospital Emergency Medicine Department. David's life was defined not by his academic and professional accomplishments but by his love of God, family, country and mankind. His life of service was an example to all who knew him. He lived a life of simple humility and joy in his wife, family, and friends. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren who brought him so much joy. His love of woodworking was evident in the furniture he made for his home and the many gifts he gave to others. He was truly a renaissance man...and his strength in all things made him not only great, but all those around him better for his being. What more can be said about the life of a wonderful man. He touched many lives as he walked humbly with the Lord. In 2013 he received a double lung transplant thanks to the ultimate gift of life from his donor, Jacob Krebs, and his family Will, Mary, and Julie. Each day of the last two years was a blessing. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Porter Loring North. The family invites you to join them for the:
