CEDAR FALLS - Ellen J. Cowell, 80, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, June 23, 2006, at the Western Home.

She was born March 16, 1926, in Des Moines, daughter of Lester A. and Perle L. Shull Smoldt. She married Gordon A. Cowell on Dec. 31, 1945, in Leavenworth, Kan.

Over the years Mrs. Cowell was a teacher, worked at Black's and was a homemaker.

Survived by her husband; two daughters, Linda G. (John) Pisney of Cedar Rapids and Connie J. (Jeff) Card of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Heather McCallum, Christopher Pisney, Keri Barker, Andrea Pisney, Justin Hum and Joshua Hum; three great-grandchildren, Kaela Barker, Jason McCallum and Kameron Barker; and a sister, Marjorie A. (John) Lewis of Nashville, Tenn.

Preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry; and a sister, Betty L. Pickett.

Memorial services 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cedar Falls Western Home, with inurnment in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for an hour before services. Garden View Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Ellen passed away with her family at her side after a courageous battle with cancer.
