Married Lloyd O Dickey 6/23/1945

Fern J. Dickey, age 97 of Urbandale, died February 15, 2022, at the Urbandale Health Care
Center.

Fern was born June 23, 1924, to Elmer and Ida Chambers. She graduated from Waukee High School in 1941.

Fern and Lloyd first met at a roller skating rink and shortly thereafter were married on June 23, 1945. They made their home in Mitchellville before moving to Urbandale in 1957. Fern worked at Sears until she retired in 1984. Fern and Lloyd were married for 57 years before his passing.

Fern loved to go to the Iowa State Fair, watching the Urbandale 4th of July parade from her front yard, shopping, and decorating. Fern's chocolate chips cookies earned her the Nickname "Grandma Cookies".

Fern is survived by daughters Linda Keasey of Madrid, Sheryl Westbrook (Dan) of Altoona and son Dennis Dickey of Urbandale, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a sister Shirley Shields of Kansas, sister-in-law's Marge Chambers of Arizona, and Genelle Chambers of Urbandale and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, grandson Brent Ballard, son-in-law Richard Keasey, father, and mother, brothers Harvey, Ray, Wayne, and sisters Lucille, Betty, Mary Lou, and her friend Ivan Knoll.

We would like to thank the staff at Mercy One Hospital and Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Fern.
