George E. Purefoy ("Deacon" to close friends and family) was born on September 6, 1927 to parents Mary Wilkins and George Purefoy who both preceded him in death. Deacon married the love of his life Vivian A. Barlow Purefoy on January 25, 1953 and daughter Brenda Blackwell who preceded them in death. Their union lasted until Vivian's homegoing in 2014 (61 years).

George graduated from Virginia Union and was drafted into the Army in 1950 with an honorable discharge after the Korean War. He was soon promoted to a "Military Personnel Management Specialist" attached to the SPP Fort Myers, VA. and was stationed at camp Atterbury in Indiana.

After serving his country, George gained employment with the United States Postal Service becoming the president of the Postal Alliance.

George was soon promoted to "Contracts Compliance Examiner." Successfully assisting the litigants in the civil rights case of great national importance known as the United States V. Roadway Express, caused the role he played to be instituted into the Civil Rights Act of 1964 including discriminatory hiring practices. From this, he helped write and implement new standards in the Civil Rights Act for the United States of America.
George continued with is service by starting an Affirmative Action business and providing tax preparation services throughout his community.

George attended Triedstone Baptist where he served as a member of the male choir and the Board of Trustees. George later joined Affinity Baptist church where he had been a member for 14 years and respectfully became Trustee George Purefoy.

George remained active in his community receiving numerous accolades from prominent entities such as the postal Service, The American Red Cross, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. George had been an avid and prominent presence within the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity for 75 years, devoting effortless time and funds towards food baskets for the needy, creating a fundamental relationship with the American Red cross which provided blood drives throughout the neighborhood.

George has served a very long and respectful life as a servant to his community and the Lord Jesus Christ. George is survived by his 3 Grandchildren: Charisse Scott, Denean and Laura Blackwell, devoted cousin Haywood Purefoy, 8 great grandchildren Christepher, Rashae, Deon, Denasha, Riley Jr., Delorean, Anthony Jr., and DeAndre, 14 great-great grandchildren, close and beloved niece Claudia Smith, friend Gloria Price and a host of family and friends.
