John Webster Cochran son of Jacob and Abigail Stephenson Colcord Cochran Jr. and the grandson of Jacob and Rachel Webster Cochran Sr. On April 10, 1836 he married Sarah Ann McKean. They were the parents of three children, Helen, Ida and Cora.
In 1860, after decades of citing his various achievements, 'Scientific American' noted that Cochran had "probably patented as many inventions as any man now living".
