Eleanor Grace Nelson was born October 3, 1930, to Fred and Emma (Wellik) Jakoubek on a farm north west of Garner, Iowa. She graduated from Hayfield High in 1948. After meeting on a blind date and going to a Duncan dance, later she married LaVerne Nelson on September, 12, 1950, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Duncan, Iowa. She enjoyed helping LaVerne on the farm, raising kids, cattle and especially cooking and baking for the family. They also enjoyed dancing, music and their many gallivanting road trips across the country. She enjoyed their annual fishing trips to Leech Lake with the family and playing cards.

They were foster parents for several children. She was a 4-H leader for many years of the Daughters of the Land club, member of Cow Bells, DRE of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell, member of American Legion Auxiliary, and Red Hat Ladies. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, making her smile when hearing stories of their antics. She also enjoyed reminiscing with her children about their past adventures and pranks as youngsters.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Clear Lake, Iowa.

She is survived by 3 children, Sue Brager and husband Mike, Clear Lake, IA, John Nelson, and wife Diane, Thornton, IA, and Joe Nelson and wife Renee, Thornton, IA ; eight grandchildren, Hollie Meyer and husband Brian, Mason City, Todd Brager, Garner, IA, Carolyn Nelson and fiancé Josh Marth, Charles City, IA, Teresa Bonnema and husband Wade, Sheffield, IA, Mark Nelson and wife Melissa, Thornton, IA, Steven Nelson and wife Sarah, Thornton, IA, Brad Nelson and wife Logan, Camp Humphries, South Korea, and Chris Nelson, Thornton, IA; and 11 great-grandchildren, Cade and Emma Meyer, Abby Brager, Wyatt and Ryley Bonnema, Micah and Mason Nelson, Brelynn and Kynnley Nelson and Carter and Quinn Nelson; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Nelson, Aurora, CO, and Shirley Nelson, Thornton, IA, and numerous, nephews, nieces, cousins and wonderful friends.

Preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne, daughter, Sally and grandson, Scott, parents, Emma and Fred Jakoubek, sisters Abby, Dorothy, and Helen and brother, William.
